First off, I’d like to thank Zahra Owens roping me into this! I’m actually always looking for something to write about and love the idea of this.
What is the working title of your book? Choices
Where did the idea come from for the book?
Well, I have always been interested in erotica and BDSM and I happened across a picture of a pleasure slave over on my favorite m/m site Y!Gallery. And at that point, it wasn’t even conscious. Just *bam!* this character started rooting around in my brain, wanting attention. Teman had very distinct ideas about what he wanted and what he was going to do and I could listen or… I could listen. LOL
What genre does your book fall under?
Um… I’m not sure it fits one particular genre. LOL! It’s m/m, definitely erotica and romantic, all at the same time. There’s some intrigue, though it is, by far, not the biggest part of the book.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie?
Now, this has been a real treat for me to figure out. There are many amazing actors out there, but for Teman, there is one that, visually, I could not get out of my head. He started in porn and has been trying to get away from it. His non-porn name is Sean Paul Lockhart. Of course, since he is trying to get away from that, I’m not sure he’d be willing to be in this as a movie. It’s just a bit too, uh, erotic, undoubtedly. XD But his face, eyes, all of it just make me think Teman.
I have waffled horribly on Bathasar. Bathasar has long, black hair, pale skin and grey eyes and, thus, is very different than the rest of the Middle Eastern peoples (like Teman, who is a gypsy – also not typical coloring). For a while, I thought about Orlando Bloom (we already know he can rock the long hair) and honestly, I still think he could do it, but there is probably someone better. I’d love suggestions, in fact!
I have found pictures of other members of my story but since I don’t want to give the whole thing away, the rest of my dream cast will have to wait until release! Sorry!
What is a one sentence synopsis of your book?
The best one sentence synopsis is a quote from J.K. Rowling. “Our choices make us who we are.”
Will your book be self published or represented by an agency?
Neither, actually, unless you consider the publisher an agency. It goes directly through Dreamspinner Press, a wonderful group of people with whom I am very lucky to work.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Oh good grief… um… Well, I started planning it in September of 2011, it was my NaNo novel for last year and was finally submitted in June of this year. So, all in all, 8 months. I do hope the next one doesn’t take that long.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre.
Oh boy. I haven’t yet found one exactly like this. There are two on Dreamspinner’s site that include pleasure slaves, but that’s the only thing they have in common. It is, in fact, quite unique from what I’ve found, thus far. I have seen a few pure erotica stories that have similar elements, but none of them are single, long novels, nor do they have the romance that this one does.
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
Part of it came from the Beauty series by Anne Rice, part of it was the picture I mentioned above. The rest of it was Teman, who simple took over.
What else about your book might interest the reader?
This is my first, ever, truly original world. Neyem is my own creation from the ground up and my first attempt at world building, which I find that I enjoy immensely. It can be demanding and a little scary to keep everything straight – I have three notebooks full of research and the like – but it’s amazing, at the same time.
Below is a small sampling of art that I have commissioned or that has been done for me of Choices. Please note that very little of it is safe for work, hence the small thumbnails.
